【Hong Kong Badminton Open】Japan is sending their strongest Women’s Doubles players to Hong Kong
To prepare for the Tokyo Olympic Games, Japan has been committed to develop their Women’s Doubles team. There are 5 Japanese pairs that reached the top 10 world ranking standing. Among them, Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota have rose to world ranking No.1 in June this year. They are the second Japanese pair who has the world No.1 title.
25-year-old Yuki Fukushima and 24-year-old Sayaka Hirota swept 8 international tournament titles this year including Asian Championships and Indonesia Open. The two have been working together since 2013. In 2017, they were awarded as BWF Most Improved Player of the Year after numerous good results achieved since 2016.
Another Japanese Women’s Doubles pair Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara are world No.4. The 23-year-old and 22-year-old started playing as partners since they were on the junior team. They have defeated Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota in the World Championships and seized the gold this year.
There has never been a Japanese pair that ever conquered the Women’s Doubles title in previous Hong Kong Open. Fans are looking forward to see if these 4 key players from Japan can make history in Hong Kong.
