“YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2019” will start tomorrow at the Hong Kong Coliseum. As there were withdrawals, a draw was conducted to decide the reserve players in the qualifying round at the team manager’s meeting in the afternoon today. Hong Kong Badminton Association also hosted a welcome dinner tonight.

The 6 day “YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2019” continues to be recognized by the Major Sports Events Committee as a ‘M’ Mark event, commencing tomorrow at the Hong Kong Coliseum. The team managers’ meeting was held to present the details of the tournament and conduct a draw for the reserve players of all five events. Several Hong Kong players were offered the chance to play in the qualifying rounds. He Yemin, head coach of Hong Kong team said, ‘We have 3 Mixed Doubles pairs got the chance to play. Hong Kong Open is a big stage for them to showcase their strength.’ He specially mentioned Chan Yin Chak and thought this young player will be a future main force for Hong Kong. This will be a great opportunity for him to gain more experience.

Coach He also talked about the young Mixed Doubles duo Yeung Ming Nok/ Ng Tsz Yau and believes the pair can be successful in the future, their training performance is always outstanding. For all the reserve players, Coach He wishes they can gain more experience and hopefully can be promoted to the main draw.

After the team managers’ meeting, a welcome dinner was held at the players’ hotel. Most of the players and coaches attended, including the Japanese team who just finished training at 8pm. Dr. Tong Yun Kai, President of Hong Kong Badminton Association said, ‘Hong Kong Open has become a ‘M’ Mark event for 15 years in a row. Local badminton fans are expecting the top player to gather at home every November.’ As Hong Kong Open is one of the events to collect 2020 Olympic points, teams are sending their best players. Tong expects some fierce battles in Hong Kong.
