The six-day “LI-NING Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2025 part of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500” kicked off at the Hong Kong Coliseum in Hung Hom on Tuesday (Sep 9). The Hong Kong Jockey Club is once again proud to become the tournament’s official community partner, working together with the Badminton Association of Hong Kong, China to present the “Jockey Club Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships Community Programme”. During the tournament period, the organisers stage a series of community promotional activities, including a badminton carnival at the Coliseum Piazza where the public can join various booth games free of charge to experience the fun-filled atmosphere.

Accuracy Challenge
Reaction Light Challenge
Sports Comic Booth Games

While badminton fans can enjoy watching the performance of star players from all over the world at the venue, they can also visit the Coliseum Piazza to join badminton related booth games such as ‘Accuracy Challenge’ to challenge their shuttle hitting skills, ‘Reaction Light Challenge’ to test their reaction time and ‘VR Badminton Games’ to challenge themselves and display their badminton skills. The public can also take part in the ‘Sports Comic’ booth activities, showing off their sports actions to become characters of the comic and posting them in social media to share with friends and relatives. Participants will receive souveniors such as special edition mobile phone straps, stickers and eco-friendly bags.

The “Jockey Club Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships Community Programmes” also gives out 5,000 tickets to under-privileged groups and schools so that their members can have the opportunity of watching the top-class tournament. One of the schools, S.K.H. Ga Fuk Wing Chun Primary School, has sent 22 students to watch the tournament when Lo Sin Yan Happy of the home team was playing against Wang Zhi Yi of China in the Women’s Singles first round. While entering the venue, one of the students WONG Yi Nga introduced her classmates the two players as it was the second time Wong, who was selected into the Hong Kong, China youth badminton team last year, attended the tournament. “I bought tickets to come here in 2023 and watched an exciting match between Akane Yamaguchi of Japan and Tunjung of Indonesia. I am so happy to come again with my classmates this time,” she said.

WONG Yi Nga

Although WONG Yi Nga is a singles player, she prefers watching the doubles as a spectator and is a great fan of Mixed Doubles pair Tang/Tse of the home team. She said, “I want to learn more of the doubles as I always lose my position when playing doubles. The Women’s Doubles pairs of Pearly Tan/Thinaah Muralitharan of Malaysia and Liu Sheng Shu/Tan Ning of China are both good to watch but my favoured pair is Tang/Tse because Tse is also graduated from the same school as me. She came back to play with us during the school’s 25th anniversary and Tse is such an amazing player. I really admire her and if I also want to become a member of the Hong Kong, China team, I must work harder.”
