Hong Kong, February 9, 2026 – The Badminton World Federation (BWF) today revealed the host cities for the BWF World Tour cycles from 2027 to 2030. The Badminton Association of Hong Kong, China Limited (BAHKC) is pleased to announce that the “Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships” has been successfully upgraded to a “World Tour Super 750” event for the first time.

Mr. Tong Wai Lun, BBS, MH, JP, President of BAHKC, stated: “We are honored to be granted the hosting rights for a World Tour Super 750 event by the BWF. Hosting a tournament of this caliber is international recognition of our Association’s capability to organize world-class events and a powerful affirmation of Hong Kong’s status as an international capital for major sports events.”

“According to the World Tour format, the world’s top 15 singles players and top 10 doubles pairs are required to participate,” Mr. Tong continued. “This ensures that the world’s elite badminton talent will gather in Hong Kong, undoubtedly attracting fans from the Mainland, overseas, and locally. BAHKC thanks the BWF for their trust, as well as the HKSAR Government, the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, and all sectors of society for their unwavering support. We will seize this opportunity to further promote badminton, enhance Hong Kong’s influence in the international sporting arena, and showcase our city’s vitality and charm to the world.”

The Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships has held 35 editions since its inception in 1982. Since 2005, the tournament has been designated as an “M” Mark event by the Major Sports Events Committee of the HKSAR Government, garnering significant attention from all sectors of society. BAHKC has now successfully bid for the World Tour for the sixth consecutive cycle, spanning the BWF Super Series from 2007 to 2010, 2011 to 2013, 2014 to 2017 and the Super 500 from 2018 to 2022 and 2023 to 2026 through 2026. Each year, the championships bring together over 200 elite players from approximately 20 countries and regions, featuring Olympic and Asian Games medalists competing for top honors.
