YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2016 starts the qualifying rounds today. A number of Hong Kong players enter the main draw of different events. Reginald Lee and Law Cheuk Him beat the Chinese player Yu Xiaoyu and Zhang Wen in Men’s Doubles and taste their first victory after they have paired up a month ago.

Lee has not competed in Men’s Doubles for 3 years. There was only one month for him and the new partner Law to prepare for the Championships. In the first game, they are suffering with a 6-points gap behind Yu and Zhang. However, with the home game favor and support from the local fans, the Hong Kong pair comes back and nails the game by 22:20. Although the Chinese pair win the second game and has a lead in the third, Lee and Law never gave up and snatch the game by 21:18.

Lee said, ‘This is the first time Law and I entered the main draw. We have the belief not to lose in the qualifying. We are very happy that we have conquered the unfavorable circumstance. Since we are newly formed, we didn’t set any target. We just want to try our best in every match. Today, I have 3 matches, 2 qualifying in Men’s Doubles and the preliminary round of Mixed Doubles at night. I am exhausted.’

Besides Lee and Law, there are a few Hong Kong players entered the main draw, including Lee Cheuk Yiu of Men’s Singles, Yeung Sum Yee of Women’s Singles, Chan Tsz Kit and Chang Tak Ching of Men’s Doubles, Mak Hee Chun and Yeung Nga Ting of Mixed Doubles and three pairs of Women’s Doubles (Leung Yuet Yee/Yeung Pui Lam, Ng Wing Yung/Yuen Sin Ying, Leung Sze Lok/Wu Yi Ting).
