Lee Cheuk Yiu and Cheung Ngan Yi progressed to Singles second round
First round of Singles and Doubles events of “YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open 2018” have started today (14th Nov). Hong Kong player Lee Cheuk Yiu and Cheung Ngan Yi progressed to second round while Ng Ka Long, Wong Wing Ki and Yip Pui Yin were unfortunately being knocked out from the Men’s and Women’s Singles.
Hong Kong sent 3 men and 3 women to play in the Singles event. In the morning, Lee Cheuk Yiu was leading 11:4 to the Chinese player Shi Yuqi who retired due to injury when the game was played only 4 minutes. Lee said, ‘I will maintain my mentality and concentrate on tomorrow’s mathch. I will set my goal to reach the top 8.’ The other two players Ng Ka Long and Wong Wing Ki were stopped in the first round. Ng Ka Long lost to Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand by 15:21, 16:21. Wong Wing Ki was eliminated by Srikanth Kidambi of India 11:21, 15:21.
In Women’s Singles, Cheung Ngan Yi overcame Dinar Dyah Ayustine of Indonesia 18:21, 21:17, 21:13. She will take on World No.1 player Tai Tzu Ying in the second round. Tai fought a 3-games match with Hong Kong’s Yip Pui Yin in the first round and snatch it by 16:21, 21:8, 21:14. Cheung Ngan Yi said, ‘No matter who I’m gonna play against, every match is difficult. I will prepare for the worse and try my best.’ The other Hong Kong Women’s Singles player Deng Xuan also lost in a 3-game match to Han Yue of China 18:21, 23:21, 16:21.
Cheung Ngan Yi, Lee Cheuk Yiu, and the Mixed Doubles pair Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet will play in the second round tomorrow starting from 6:30pm in the evening.
