Ng Ka Long Angus Make a History in Hong Kong Open and Will Fight against Lee Chong Wei for a Ticket to the Men’s Single Finals

After defeated Lin Dan last night, Ng Ka Long Angus made another history as the first Hong Kong Player entered the top 4 of Men’s Singles in YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2015. Ng prevailed over Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in the 3 games quarter-final.

The 21-year-old Hong Kong player was very patient in the whole match. In the first game, even Chou has a 6 points lead. He came back and won by 21:17. Chou took the second game by 21:15. Spectators in the coliseum started cheering for Ng and shouting ‘Hong Kong, Hong Kong!’ Ng has a 4:0 lead in the beginning of the third game but Chou later has tied it. With the local fans’ support, he finished the match with a 10 point break and won 21:15. He was overjoyed after the victory and ran up to the spectator stand to pay his gratitude. Local fans rushed to ask for selfies with him.

Before Hong Kong Open, the two players have 3 head to head records and Ng Ka Long Angus has beaten Chou recently in Bitburger Open. Ng said, ‘I knew more about his style and tactics after these matches. So when we changed side in the third game, I tried to play more drop shots as it was downwind. It will force him to return the shuttle in ascending way and provide myself more opportunities to attack. ‘

To be the first Hong Kong player advanced to top 4 of Men’s Singles, Ng was very excited. He added, ‘I am overjoyed to make a history and all the spectators were cheering for me.’ After the victory over Lin Dan, Ng gained a lot of confidence. He said, ‘I started to believe in myself that I am as competitive as all the other top players. If I have a chance to win tomorrow, I will totally fall for it.’ Ng will play against Chen Long of China or Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia in tomorrow’s semi-finals. He said it will be a great chance to learn from either them.

After winning the Men’s Doubles’ gold in World Junior Championship, Ng switch to Singles. He was never regretted. He said,’ I always think my talent is in Singles. I will aim my target to be the No.1 in Hong Kong team and fight for my Olympic ticket.’

For the focus of the night, the Men’s Singles match between Chen Long and Lee Chong Wai; Chen failed his revenge over Lee for his loss in China Open although he had taken the first game by 21:13 easily. Lee made a remarkable comeback by winning 21:19 and 21:15.
