Hong Kong ace Ng Ka Long could not repeat his victory over Lin Dan in Men’s Singles second round of YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships. Ng was excited even he lost over a deuce in the final game as Lin played very hard and serious in the 66 minute match.

Lin was beaten by Ng in straight games 2 years ago. After that the two have never played against each other. Lin’s world ranking is 4th and Ng is 9th. The match was today’s highlight. Lin is always the favorite player of Hong Kong fans however, the Hong Kong ace surely won the crowd over today.

Ng has a 6: 2 lead in the first game. However, he made so many mistakes that Lin overtook the lead by 7:6. With the home crowd’s support, Ng blitzed to 21:17 after the two scored back and forth till 15: 14.

In the second game, Lin took 5 points in a row and overtook Ng’s 6:2 lead and zoomed to 17:12. Although Ng chased to 18: 20. Lin still managed to win 21: 18. In the last game, Ng was once leading 16:11. However, Lin fought back to 16:15 and won the deuce by 22: 20 and stopped Ng at top 16.

Although Ng could not beat Lin, he was still very satisfied with his performance. He said, ‘Today I really want to win. I am a little bit disappointed. However, I am also very happy and thrilled about the result. No one dare to say they can absolutely defeat Lin. I always want to learn from these top players. 2 years ago I was still learning. Today I can feel I am not too far from them, especially Lin played more seriously than last time.’ Ng will attend the World Superseries Finals next month. Last year he exited after group stage. He has set his target to top 4 this year.

In Women’s Singles, Yip Pui Yin played a tight first game with Korean seed 3 Sung Ji Hyun who won all 5 times head to head record. Sung was leading all the time in the first game. Yip chased to a close 15:16 record but at the end lost the deuce 22: 24. In the second game, Yip’s performance was going downhill and unluckily she pull her right groin when she is losing 9: 14. Sung took the second game by 21:11 and stopped Yip in the second round.

Yip needed to be treated after the match but her injury was not serious. She said, ‘When I was losing in the first game, I told myself to hang in there. However, I think my determination was not enough. Although I have lost today but I think I have played well in the last 2 matches.’ 30-year-old Yip will reduce her competitions next year and only concentrate on those matters.
