Students from 30 schools were invited to the “YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open 2018”
“YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open 2018” attracted lots of local primary and secondary school students to the Hong Kong Coliseum to cheer up for the players of the first day Singles and Doubles event.
In order to enhance the interest and understanding of young kids in badminton, Hong Kong Badminton Association has distributed nearly 600 complimentary tickets to 30 primary and secondary schools. Mr. Ma, teacher of United Christian College said, ‘There are 18 students from our school came to watch the tournament. Our students study sports management at school. It’s a great opportunity for them to visit and check on the venue set up, hospitality and all preparation work besides watching world-class player’s exciting performance.
Students were happy to see their idols and other star players. Kwan Wing Yi said, ‘ I don’t play badminton but I would love to see Lin Dan. I know he is a great player.’ Lo Hing Cheong, a member of school badminton team, hope to learn from the top players. He said, ‘I love to learn from Lee Chong Wei and Viktor Axelsen. However, they are injured and couldn’t play in Hong Kong. I would also like to watch Tai Tzu-ying’s matches. She is very good at making her opponent running around on the court.’
Besides mainstream schools, special schools and schools for ethnic minority groups were also invited, included Hong Kong Taoist Association Wun Tsuen School. Their teacher Ms. Chan Wing Hang said, ‘Most of the major events in Hong Kong didn’t fit our school’s schedule. Our student didn’t have a lot of opportunities to attend these kind of events. This is a great chance for them to broaden their horizon. Indian student Kiv was excited to see Sindu of India to play. He said, ‘ It’s different to watch the match on site than on the TV. The atmosphere is better. We are more excited.’ All the students wanted to watch the tournament again. Some of them has already bought tickets for the next day event.
