Quarter-finals of Singles events has completed today in YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships. The semi-final fans have a longing for between Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei was failed to materialise after Lin was defeated by his fellow Shi Yu Qi in straight games. On the other hand Lee has successfully moved on to top 4 after knocking out seed 2 Son Wan Ho of Korea.

‘It’s not only me who expects myself to play against Lin, I think the entire badminton community was expecting it, too,’ said Lee who will now play against Shi tomorrow in the semi-final. The 35 year-old player has showed the fans he is in good form. He lead all the way through the first game and won by 21:11. In the second game, Son Wan Ho reverted and was leading 11: 3. Lee score 14 points in a row and finish the game by 21: 12. Lee said, ‘In the second game, I was not used to wind. It took me a while to adjust. I thought I was going to play the third game.’

Lin played the quarter-final against Shi after Lee’s match. He see-sawed with his fellow Shi in the first game until he took 7 points and finished by 21:13. In the second game, Shi kept his lead from 8:6 and tied the match by 21:17. In the final game, Lin was affect by the disagreement of some out of bounds judgements. He lost the game by 15:21 from his 9:4 lead. Lin went straight for the exit door after the match without saying a word. Shi said, ‘I am familiar with Lin’s tactics. I was well prepared for this match. Lee is a difficult opponent. I won’t think too much.’

In Women’s Singles, the defending champion Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei showed her world No.1 strength, reverted from 5:11 and won the first game by 21:15 over Chen Yufei of China. In the second game, Tai also has a comeback and took the game by 23:21. She will play against Sung Ji Hyun of Korea in the semi-final. Tai said, ‘It’s my first time played on court No.1. It took some time to adjust. Chen didn’t show her strength in game.’
