Top Players Arrive in Hong Kong for YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships Viktor Alexson Regards Ng Ka Long as a Tough opponent
“M” mark event YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2017 will commence tomorrow. Top players around the world including: Denmark No. 1 player Viktor Alexson, Lin Dan and Chen Long of China and Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei arrived (20th November) in Hong Kong to prepare for this six-day tournament.
Hong Kong Open is the last tournament for players to fight for points to the MetLife BWF World Superseries Finals in Dudai next month which attract a lot of players to come to Hong Kong. The players finished TAHOE China Open in Fuzhou and arrived in Hong Kong this afternoon. Viktor Alexson eliminated Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long in Semi-final but was defeated by Chen Long. The Danish player is fluent in Mandarin praised Ng Ka Long as a tough opponent when he was greeted by the reporters at the airport. He said, ‘Ng is a very good player. We played in Junior events before. It’s tough to play against him. I hope we will put on a good show here.’ Alexson thinks there are so many strong players in Men’s Singles. If you are not in a good shape, every match will be very hard.
Chen Long who won the gold in China Open is looking forward to the competition in Hong Kong. He said, ‘I didn’t come last year. I hope I will have a good performance. My first round opponent is very strong.’ World No.4 Li Dan was knocked out at the first round in Fuzhou. He admitted he was not in good form. He hopes he will have a better performance in Hong Kong. If Lin promotes to the second round, he will face Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long who he regards as a good player.
Akane Yamaguchi of Japan and Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei also arrived today. However, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia did not travel with his team. YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2017 will be held from 21st to 26th November at Hong Kong Coliseum.
