Ng Ka Long Angus eliminated Lin Dan in just 2 games and advance to top 8 in Men’s Singles of YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2015. The 21-year-old young player is the second Hong Kong player after Wong Wing Ki Vincent who made a record of beating Lin.

Lin Dan has an unpleasant start in the first game and given Angus a 9:0 lead. The Hong Kong 2012 World Junior Men’s Doubles gold medalist finished it with 21:8. In the second game, Lin was losing 1:6 and managed to make a comeback of 14:13. However, he couldn’t hold on to it after an 18:18 tie and given the game to Angus by 21:18. Lin Dan said, ‘Ng was very fast and played very well. On the other hand, I couldn’t strengthen my power due to my injury.’

Angus was surprised about the victory and point out that Lin was not in his best shape. He said, ‘I have given my 100 percent. Otherwise, I couldn’t beat him. I didn’t expect to win easily in the first game. In the second one, he was trying to take control. However, he was not in his best shape. I had reminded myself to concentrate in every single minute. Winning this match really make me feel very excited.’ Before the match, Angus and his coach are expected an aggressive net play by Lin. He was mentally well prepared to it.

Angus will play against Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei. If he successfully advances to top 4, he will face either Chen Long of China or Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia.

Besides Angus, all Hong Kong players have failed their attempt for top 8. In Women’s Single, Yip Pui Yin lost to Sayaka Sato of Japan 21:16, 21:11. Lee Chun Hei Reginald and Chau Hoi Wah were beaten by Praveen Jordan and Debby Susanto of Indonesia 21:18, 21:18 in Mixed Doubles. Chau said, ‘We are satisfied with our performance. We played the tactics we planned. However, we didn’t play well in critical moments.’

In Men’s Doubles and Women’s Doubles, Or Chin Chung/Tang Chun Man and Cheung Ying Mei/Tsang Wing Chiu Avery were stopped by the Korean pairs Kim Gi Jung/Kim Sa Rang and Chae Yoo Jung/Kim So Yeong.
