“YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open 2018” has successfully concluded


Hong Kong’s annual badminton event, “YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open 2018” was successfully completed on 18th November. The 6-day event attracted more than 30,000 spectators. More than 250 athletes from 18 countries and regions included gold medalists of 2016 Olympic Games, 2018 Asian Games, 2018 World Championships and the top ten players in the world have staged exciting competitions for Hong Kong fans. The final event day tickets were sold out on the first day of sale (October 16th). Hong Kong Badminton Association (HKBA) sincerely thanks all sponsors, subvention bodies and support from members of the public.

During the Opening Ceremony of the finals, the organizer has arranged a wonderful drum performance with Chinese and Western musical instruments

The event was unveiled on 13th November (Tuesday). More than 3,000 spectators were attracted to the coliseum even for qualifying rounds. On Wednesday night, China’s world-famous player Lin Dan’s battle against the world’s number one Japanese Kento Momota. Although Lin lost by 1:2, their game was very exciting. Korean player Lee Yong-dae was not in good form. He still got Hong Kong fans’ support. The Japanese players became the big winners of this event. They were either champion or 1st runners up in all 5 events. Hong Kong’s 22-year-old player Lee Cheuk Yiu finished at his first-time World Tour semi-finals and was praised by foreign team coach.
A carnival was held at the plaza of Hong Kong coliseum with booths of HSBC and TOTAL, as well as YY’s sales booth. It has attracted many fans to line up for autographs of star players.

Until 2021, the HSBC BWF World Tour Hong Kong Open will continue to be staged at Hong Kong Stadium every year in November, hoping to bring fans an annual exciting event for the next three years.
