Zhao Yunlei Swept 2 Golds for the third time in Hong Kong Open
Zhao Yunlei of China swept two golds in Mixed Doubles and Women’s Doubles of YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2015. The Chinese player, took the same titles in 2012 and 2014, has become the first player ever in Hong Kong Open who won 2 golds medals 3 times.
Although China’s badminton Kingdom has been challenged by more teams and players in recent years, they still managed to capture 2 golds 2 silvers in Mixed Doubles and Women’s Doubles of Hong Kong Open this year. 29-year-old Zhao Yunlei became the national hero.
Zhao Yunlei teamed up with Zhang Nan won her first gold medal in Mixed Doubles. In this an all Chinese players’ battle, Zhao Yunlei/Zhang Nan beat Liu Cheng/Bao Yixin in the first game, 17:21. However, Liu/Bao came back with 21:17 and was leading in third game until 14:14. Zhao/ Zhang snatch 5 points at the end and won their 4th title by 21:17.
Later she played the other all China final with Tian Qing against Tang Yuanting/Yu Yang and won by 21-15 21-12 easily. Zhao’s world ranking in Mixed Doubles and Women’s Doubles are No.1 and No.5 respectively. She said she was not in a good form during Hong Kong as she has played a lot of competitions recently. Making a record of winning both gold medals 3 times, she was very excited. She said, ‘ I love Hong Kong very much, especially the fans here. My next target is the Rio Games, I will concentrate on the qualification scoring for it with my teammates.’ Zhao won both Mixed and Doubles golds in 2012 London Olympics and was the only badminton player of China has won 2 golds in the same Olympics.
The last final of the night is between Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong of Korea and Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen of Denmark. The Korean team won the Men’s Doubles title in 21-7 18-21 21-18.
